About

This website provides a virtual information point about Rubh' an Dùnain, the ancestral homeland of the MacAskills on the Isle of Skye in the Western Isles of Scotland.

It was created by the MacAskills of Rubh' an Dùnain Society, a small not-for-profit organisation constituted in May 2006 by descendants of Iain 'Dubh' MacAskill, tacksman at Rubh' an Dùnain in 1683. Family relatives later went on to found the Talisker Distillery on Skye.

Our objective was, and remains, to maintain a sense of identity and kinship and to foster awareness, understanding and on-going research into Rubh' an Dùnain itself.

Give us your comments HERE about how we can deliver our vision for the repopulation of the landscape through a dynamic new online community – Friends of Rubh' an Dùnain.

Join us HERE to offer to help us deliver this vision.

Our family Society is entirely self-supporting and receives no grants or external financial assistance. It levies no membership charge. Support of any kind is always welcome. Our office bearers are:
